Most commonly people are referred to physical therapy for pain resulting from an injury - whether old or new. However, there are many lesser known situations where it would make sense to see a physical therapist. Especially when considering other potentially more costly and intrusive options (i.e. surgery).
Shoulder pain (including rotator cuff injury), joint sprain, muscle strain, lower back pain (including herniated disc), sport-related pain/injury, post-surgical care
Stroke, spinal cord injury, neuropathy/nerve pain, sciatica
Vertigo
Dizziness
Concussion
Incontinence after having a child or with aging, managing a hernia without surgery
Osteoporosis (posture & building strength of bones/muscles), improve running/lifting mechanics, prevent injury related to sport or work
